If the judgement becomes final, the organised breeding of Cavalier King Charles Spaniels and English Bulldogs in Norway will not be permitted.

However, the judgement means that it will be possible for these breeds to be imported without any kind of checks on parentage or health. Nor is there anything to prevent these dogs from being used for breeding outside Norway.

A setback for animal welfare

How is breeding from these dogs affected?

Based on today’s judgement, the NKK recommends against breeding from these dogs until a decision has been reached about whether to appeal. Any appeal must be lodged within four weeks.

This judgement has no consequences for English Bulldogs and Cavalier King Charles Spaniels that are currently registered with the NKK.
