– The Norwegian Kennel Club (NKK), the clubs and associated breeders are all passionate about the wellbeing of dogs, and we certainly acknowledge the problems that exist. That is precisely why it is vital for these individuals to continue doing their goal-oriented work. No one else would be in a position to do anything about the health situation of these breeds, says Tom Øystein Martinsen, chair of NKK’s executive board.

When the appeal proceedings between, among others, the Norwegian Kennel Club (NKK) and the Norwegian Society for Protection of Animals (NSPA) resumed in Borgarting Court of Appeal on Tuesday, the lawyer representing the NSPA, Emanuel Feinberg, continued his opening speech. It was then time for the parties bringing the appeal to give evidence: the three sued clubs and two of the breeders.

Ankesaken mellom NKK mfl og Dyrebeskyttelsen Norge (DBN) fortsatte tirsdag morgen med advokat Emanuel Feinbergs innledningsforedrag på vegne av DBN. Deretter var det tid for partsforklaringer, hvor de tre saksøkte klubbene samt to oppdrettere slapp til.

Søksmålet fra Dyrebeskyttelsen mot Norsk Kennel Klub med flere handler om politikk, ikke jus. Det sa NKKs advokat Anette Fjeld i sin replikk under den tredje og siste dagen av forhandlingene i Høyesterett. Dom ventes om tre til fire uker.

Hvis det nå blir et forbud mot enkelte raser, eller påbud om krysningsavl – hvordan skal det gjennomføres og håndheves? Seksjonssjef for dyrevelferd i Mattilsynet, Torunn Knævelsrud, satte fingeren på det som fremstår som det svakeste punkt i ønsket Dyrebeskyttelsen Norge har. Hennes vitnemål var dermed det mest tankevekkende på rettsakens fjerde dag.
